4-day wilderness advanced first aid. The bridge between WFA and WFR — deeper skills, longer scenarios, WMAI curriculum.
WAFA is a 4-day course that sits between WFA Level 2 and the full Wilderness First Responder. It's designed for outdoor professionals who need a deeper skill set than WFA provides but aren't ready to commit to the full 7-day WFR. Course follows WMAI curriculum and is taught by WMAI-certified instructors.
Day 1: Introduction; Systems-based critical thinking; Infection control; Patient assessment system; Circulatory and respiratory systems; Adult CPR; Basic life support
Day 2: Nervous system; Spine management; Musculoskeletal injuries; Lifts, moves, and extrications; Splints; Patient assessment drills
Day 3: Thermoregulation; Bites and stings; Lightning; Wounds and burns; Allergies and anaphylaxis; Improvised patient carries; Assessment drills
Day 4: Case study review; Elective topics; Scenarios; Written and practical exam
Trip leaders, guides, SAR team members, and outdoor professionals who need solid wilderness medicine skills but can't take a week off for WFR. WAFA certification is recognized by most employers requiring wilderness medicine credentials.
