Hi-Lift Fundamentals

Half-day Hi-Lift jack course. How it works, where it fails, and how to use it for lifts, winching, and recovery in soft ground.

Hi-Lift Fundamentals

The Hi-Lift jack is one of the most versatile recovery tools you can carry — and one of the most likely to injure you if you use it wrong. This half-day course covers safe, effective technique so you get the recovery without the trip to the ER.

What You'll Cover

  • Hi-Lift mechanics: how the ratchet system works and exactly how it fails
  • Safe lift points: what works on your vehicle, what doesn't
  • Lifting and lowering technique: load transfer, stability, and body position
  • Using the Hi-Lift as a winch: rigging and technique
  • Recovery on soft ground: base plates, improvised platforms
  • Common rigging configurations for different vehicle types

Bring your own Hi-Lift if you have one — you'll work with your actual gear. Waypoint provides jacks for students who don't own one.
